Lisandro Martinez has officially completed his summer transfer to Manchester United.

The Argentine defender, 24, was confirmed as new manager Erik ten Hag’s third summer signing on Wednesday, 24 hours after Christian Eriksen was also unveiled in the famous red strip at Carrington.

Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia completed his own £14.7million switch from Feyenoord to OId Trafford earlier in July.

Martinez arrives at United from Ajax in a deal believed to be worth an initial £48.5m plus a potential further £8.5m in add-ons, penning a five-year contract until 2027 that includes the option for a further 12 months beyond that.

The centre-back - who was spotted arriving at training with fellow new recruit Eriksen on Tuesday - quickly reunites with Ten Hag, under whom he won two Eredivisie titles, the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield during a successful spell in Amsterdam.

Arsenal had also held a strong interest in Martinez, but United ultimately triumphed in a fierce battle for his signature.

“It’s an honour to join this great football club. I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment and, now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further,” the player told United’s official website.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career and that’s what I want to continue at Manchester United. There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that, under this manager and coaches, and together with my new team-mates, we can do it.

“I want to thank Ajax and their fans for all the support they gave me. I had an unbelievable time there but feel the moment is right to test myself in another environment. Now I am at the perfect club to do this.”
