Five fire crews tackle blaze at Burnley's Surteco building

Firefighters spent more than five hours tackling a blaze at a commercial premises in Burnley.

At around 7.20pm on Sunday (May 28), crews from Burnley, Nelson, Rawtenstall and Hyndburn as well as the aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn attended the blaze, at the Surteco building on Widow Hill Road.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels and three ventilation units to bring the fire under control.

A spokesperson for the fire service said crews from Nelson managed to "gain entry to the building and get an early hold on the fire, and had this not happened they would have lost the building".

No injuries were reported and crews remained at the scene for more than five hours.

The spokesperson added: "At 7.17pm on May 28, four fire engines from Burnley, Nelson, Rawtenstall, and Hyndburn, together with an aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn, attended a commercial building fire on Widow Hill Road, Burnley.

"Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels, three positive-pressure ventilation units, and a 10.5m ladder to extinguish the fire.

"Crews remained in attendance for over five hours."
