Fluke or genius? Have your say on Cisse's goal

Newcastle's super-striker Papiss Cisse lit up Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night with a pair of incredible goals.

His first, a superb turn and volley, was undoubtedly one of the finest strikes of the season.

But it is his outrageous second goal that has sparked fierce debate: the Sengalese striker latched onto a nod down and let fly from a sharp angle and 35 yards out, curving the ball with the outside of his right foot past Petr Cech and into the top corner to secure a 2-0 win for the Magpies.

Nobody can deny that it was an eye-catching goal - but did Cisse really mean to pull off such an audacious move, or was he merely having a speculative punt at the target which happened to come off far better than he had any right to hope?

With any goal - particularly long-range screamers - there's an element of chance, since no footballer is genuinely aiming for a particular square inch of net any more than Tiger Woods aims his drives at a particular blade of grass.

But the very fact that Cisse has scored 13 goals in 12 matches for Newcastle suggests that he may well have known exactly what he was doing - and he has scored with equally inventive finishes against Swansea and Norwich in recent weeks.
