The first event of the two-stop European section of the ASP Men's World Championship Tour takes place at La Graviere in the Hossegor region in the South of France.
Prize money of $450,000 (£280,000) is at stake before the world's 32 best surfers move on to Peniche in Portugal to conclude the European leg of the tour.
Local favourite Jeremy Flores, currently eighth in the world standings, will be the centre of attention.
However, 16 surfers from all over the globe will also compete for a wildcard slot, including France's Patrick Beven.
