Football: 'Unlucky' gambler wins £24k three minutes before Hazard goal would have netted him nothing

A dad who was always labelled 'unlucky' by pals claims to have pulled off the most daring run of fortune on a bet ever seen – landing him with £24,000 from a tenner.

Glenn Stewart netted the cool five-figure sum off an audacious £10 football accumulator thanks to last-gasp strikes in THREE games.

And the dad-of-one cashed out on his bet just three minutes before the late Chelsea goal which handed Leicester City the Premier League title would have left him with nothing.

Glenn picked six teams to win in games where both sides had to score, but a trio of clubs were set to let him down with 86 minutes on the clock.

Then an 87th-minute winner by Italian giants AS Roma was followed by 93rd-minute injury-time strikes from Dutch club MVV Maastricht and Dundee in Scotland to put Glenn in line to scoop £32,000.

But the gas engineer used BetVictor's cash-out option to walk away with £24,000 as five of his six predictions stood correct, with Benfica running out 2-1 winners against Braga in Portugal and Almere City hammering FC Emmen 4-1 in the Netherlands.

And three minutes after full-time in Dundee's 2-1 win over Dundee United, Tottenham Hotspur – the  sixth winner Glenn had initially predicted – conceded an equaliser to Chelsea in a game that finished 2-2.

That meant the 25-year-old would have missed out on his entire windfall if he had held on in hope of a Spurs victory.

Glenn, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, said: "I've come close to a big win a few times before but always been a single goal out so my mates call me unlucky. I'm not unlucky now.

"With five results in I thought they might offer me a few grand. When I saw £24,000, I nearly put my finger through the phone.

"Me and my brother were jumping up and down like mad. Then when Hazard scored for Chelsea we went even more ballistic.

"If I'd have been greedy and kept the bet on for a Spurs win, I'd have got absolutely nothing. If had to log in and out of my account a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

"There were about three minutes between full-time in the Dundee game and Chelsea scoring. For so many games to swing in the dying minutes like that is incredible."

Glenn, who lives with his partner Kelly Taylor, 25, and their 18-month-old daughter Annabelle, watched the games' dramatic conclusions with his brother Craig, 28, who lives on the same street.

The pair jumped for joy as Craig Wighton's late strike for Dundee condemned city rivals Dundee United to relegation from the Scottish Premiership - and prompted Glenn to take the £24,071.45 cash-out on offer.

Newcastle United fan Glenn said: "I'm so glad I hung in there for as long as I did. When I saw some of the early scores I just assumed the bet was beaten. I can't really explain what it feels like. So many times I've had last-minute goals god against me.

"I was in the house with my partner but she was in bed and I was following the scores downstairs. When four of the games were at full-time they offered me £4,000 to cash out. I rang my brother because I was so nervous I was shaking.

"He only lives down the street so he told me to come round. We had the Chelsea game on TV and the live scores on the phone.

"I don't know who Craig Wighton is but when he scored I just wanted to kiss him. I need to write him a letter of thanks or something.

"Then the Dundee game finished and I panicked because you can't cash-out in injury time, but Chelsea were only in the 80th minute.
"It came up £24,000 and I didn't have to think twice. It's the craziest run of luck ever."

Glenn took a screengrab of his winning bet and sent the picture to around 15 friends on Snapchat - including Kelly, who was still awake in bed.

Glenn said: "She quickly rang and asked if I had anything to tell her. My dad is in Cyprus so he still doesn't know. I'm going to put a bit away to save up and take Annabelle to Florida when she's a bit older. I'll probably buy myself a new TV as well.

"I'm not a massive gambler but I like a flutter at the weekend and if there's any big midweek games. I've never won anything like this amount, and certainly not in this fashion.'
