Perhaps he felt peckish but only former Brazil, Porto and Bolton striker knows why he was trying to smuggle a suitcase of fish, cheese and nuts through customs in Brazil.

The 42-year-old had his luggage seized in Porto Alegre, Brazil, after returning from a trip to Portugal, with officials confiscating 10kg of cod, several bags of nuts and roughly 1.2kg of cheese which were all destroyed, according to reports in Brazilian newspaper O Globo

The Brazilian ministry of justice explained that the transport of this type of food “can only be done with the presentation of a health certificate issued by country of origin” and since Jardel’s snacks are all banned from being brought into the country, they were incinerated.

Jardel is a legend in Porto where he scored 130 goals in 125 appearances from 1996-2000.
