The midfielder was sent off for a retaliatory trip before County went down to a late goal in a 1-0 friendly defeat in Holland on Tuesday night.

County lost Stuart Kettlewell to suspension early last season following a similar incident.

Adams told several national newspapers: "It is not right what's happened. It is the second time we've played Den Bosch and the second time we've had a sending-off for an innocuous challenge.

"It's hard because we've lost another player for the first game of the season - and that's not right.

"To lose Richard against Celtic would be terrible, but we'll wait to see what transpires over the next few days. I don't know if there are avenues for appeal but I will find out."
