Football - Ainsworth pleased with Chairboys

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth was content with his side's display in their 1-0 FA Cup home defeat to Preston.

Kevin Davies scored the only goal of the game in the 34th minute to seal a North End win in a cup tie that lacked any other real quality throughout the 90 minutes.

Wycombe took until the 83rd minute to test Declan Rudd thanks to Matt McClure's low drive but Ainsworth was happy with his side's commitment.

"I thought it was a really tight cup tie and I'm proud of that," he said. "It was a close game that was decided by a wonder strike, and there's not much you can do about that.

"I was pleased how we pushed on in the second half and although our keeper had to make a couple of saves so did their goalkeeper. It was a shame we weren't able to get that goal and force a replay up at Deepdale, which would have been nice.

"Preston are a good side but we didn't give them much. Stuart Beavon returned and didn't get much change from us and Davies wins a lot of flick-ons but they didn't much else aside from the goal."
