Martin Allen has been delighted with Gillingham's performances this season

Former Arsenal man Jay Emmanuel-Thomas impressed as he created goals for both Sam Baldock and Jordan Wynter.

But Allen insisted his side's fortunes are not too far from turning in their favour.

"City are a decent side, they were in the Championship last year so there would have been a two-division gap and they've got some good players," said Allen.

"I thought the lads did quite well. We had some good chances in the first half, but none of them managed to get into the goal.

"There were some good passing movements, good crosses but once again we didn't manage to get the breaks that get us over the line.

"But the level of commitment and energy of the players was second to none once again.

"I'm very proud of the players and people we have got. I don't like losing, but we are not far off.

"It will turn in their favour and when it clicks the place will rock and we will get on a roll."
