The England international was a member of the City side which beat Stoke at Wembley in 2011 to end a 35-year wait for a trophy.

He went on to play an important role in City's Barclays Premier League title success last season and could be in the side again against Wigan at the national stadium this weekend.

It is this pursuit of silverware which tempted him to leave Aston Villa for the Etihad Stadium four years ago.

Although his future has been the subject of speculation this season as he enters the final year of his contract this summer, his decision to join City has been fully vindicated.

But at the time it was a tough one to make. City were just a year into their project under Sheikh Mansour and were lavishing vast sums on a number of players.

He could easily have found himself on the fringes whilst, at the same time, Liverpool were still interested having openly courted him throughout the summer of 2008.

Barry, 32, said: "It's fantastic. This is exactly why I made the tough decision to leave a club after so long to be playing in games like this more regularly. Hopefully we will have another trophy.

"I'm obviously really looking forward to it. It is the FA Cup final - every year it is a fantastic day.

"It was one that as a young kid growing up you look forward to watching so to be part of it, I'm really looking forward to it."
