Football - Becchio "frustrated" at Norwich

Luciano Becchio is willing to abide by Norwich's decision to deny him a return to Leeds, but is likely to push for a move back to Yorkshire or elsewhere if he does not get any game time before the January transfer window.

Leeds manager Brian McDermott on Monday confirmed he had seen an enquiry for the Argentinean blocked by counterpart Chris Hughton, denying the 29-year-old striker a move Press Association Sport understands he would have welcomed.

Becchio swapped Leeds - for whom he scored 86 goals in a four-and-a-half-year stint - for Norwich in January as part of a move which saw Steve Morison head to the Sky Bet Championship club, but has found first-team opportunities hard to come by.

He made just two Barclays Premier League starts after his deadline-day switch and has featured for only 14 minutes this season - off the the bench against Bury in the Capital One Cup. The move failed to work out for Morison too, who is now back on loan at former club Millwall.

It is understood that former Barcelona B man Becchio is "frustrated and not very happy" at how his time at Carrow Road is panning out and, perhaps sensing such, McDermott considered Becchio as a possible answer to his own side's goalscoring problems.

Press Association Sport understands Becchio was keen on a move to Leeds, a club that is "a very nice place" to him, although as things stand Hughton appears unwilling to sanction a move, especially with summer signings Johan Elmander, Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel still bedding in.

Becchio will look to force a way out if he has not started to feature move heavily before January, though, and Leeds are not the only club keen on acquiring him. Press Association Sport has been told at least one other Championship club have asked after him, as well as sides in Spain's Primera Division and in Turkey.

McDermott said on Monday afternoon: "I made an enquiry to Chris Hughton regarding Luciano Becchio and he wasn't available. Will it change? Who knows? Things do."
