Football - Best win yet for Wilcox

Scunthorpe manager Russ Wilcox hailed what could be the "most important win of the season" as his side moved level on points with leaders Chesterfield thanks to an injury-time goal in a 3-2 victory at Accrington.

The Iron were trailing 2-0 at the break with goals from Lee Molyneux after 18 minutes and Peter Murphy's 37th-minute effort giving Accrington a deserved lead.

But Wilcox put on two substitutes at half-time, as well as having a few "choice" words, and it changed the game in Scunthorpe's favour.

Sam Winnall pulled one back in the 49th minute before Hakeeb Adelakun rifled home a wonder goal nine minutes later.

Then defender David Mirfin popped up with an injury-time winner to give Scunthorpe their first win in six games.

"It was an amazing day," said Wilcox. "We were trapped in the hotel for 35 minutes by a van and then we didn't turn up in the first half.

"There were a few choice, but constructive words said at half-time - I made it known the fans had come a long way and we weren't performing - I made a couple of changes and put two wingers on and we turned the game on its head.

"At 2-0 down we knew the next goal would be important and we got it early, got it back to 2-2 and I thought it would peter out for a draw, but then David popped up with a fantastic header.

"It was the best three points of my reign and maybe the most important win of the season."
