Football - Brown disappointed by draw

Southend boss Phil Brown expects his side to be in the promotion pack at the end of the season - and hopes he looks back at their 1-1 draw at Accrington as a point gained.

Immediately after the match, Brown was ruing the chances which got away and felt his side should have secured their second successive win over the festive period.

Mark Phillips' own goal was cancelled out by Luke Prosser's 78th-minute equaliser but Accrington goalkeeper Andrew Dawber was man of the match as Southend squandered a number of decent chances.

"I am not at all happy," said Brown. "I do not think we performed well enough and we came here to get three points.

"We are disappointed to concede from a set-piece but, from our perspective, Michael Timlin had two really good chances as did Barry Corr.

"Accrington is a tough place to come and, while we felt we should have had all three points, we might look back on this point as a decent one at the end of the season.

"We are ambitious and we want to make sure we are challenging at the right end at the end of the season but I am disappointed with this draw at the moment."
