The prospect of a play-off tilt in the npower Championship on the back of some impressive form at the turn of the year failed to materialise for the Clarets.
But Dyche feels performances such as Good Friday's thrilling 3-3 draw against former club Watford give him plenty of reasons to be cheerful.
"Our hopes are to continue the building process," he said.
"It's not all about what you see on the football pitch. We have changed all sorts of things at Burnley since I've been there and it's building a situation, similarly to what we did at Watford last year.
"We have young players learning their trade and that is part of the building blocks for the future, and it takes time to make it really work but we are showing good signs.
"I'm really interested in that and focusing on the next seven games."
