Football - Carrick lauds devastating duo

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes as the best players he has had the privilege of playing alongside.

PA Sport Report

Carrick has made almost 350 appearances for United since an B£18.6million move from Tottenham in the summer of 2006, many of which will have been alongside Scholes, who retired last year.

The 32-year-old also spent three seasons working with Ronaldo prior to the Portuguese star's B£80million move to Real Madrid in 2009.

Asked on United's website as to the best player he's played with, Carrick said: "Cristiano stands out. He's just an incredible athlete and was so influential.

"But, for what he did in the game, and for me personally playing alongside him for so long, I'd have to put Paul Scholes up there.

"I learnt so much from him, and I can't speak highly enough about what a brilliant player he was. So I'd go with those two."
