The England international has endured a difficult, injury-plagued season since his £12million move to the Etihad Stadium from Everton last August.
But the 22-year-old impressed on his first start for two months as City edged out West Brom 1-0 on Tuesday.
Rodwell has been hampered by hamstring problems throughout his career and spent three months on the sidelines earlier in the campaign before suffering his latest setback in March.
He has been rated highly since first breaking into the Everton team five years ago and he wants an extended run next season to prove his ability.
Rodwell, who ended his absence with a brief substitute appearance at Swansea last Saturday, said: "It is really good. It's been a stop-start season with injuries so to finally get back out on the pitch, there is no better feeling.
"There is still a lot to come from me. I am still young and still learning.
"That is my first game in six weeks. If I put a back-to-back 10 or 20 games, that is when the fans will see the best of me."
