Football - Coyle to mix it up

Owen Coyle intends to make more sweeping changes for Wigan's third game in six days when they travel to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup.

The Latics boss made seven changes for the Europa League draw with Zulte Waregem on Thursday and then another four alterations for Sunday's 2-0 Sky Bet Championship win over Ipswich as he looks to negotiate a congested fixture list this season.

Marc-Antoine Fortune (hamstring) joined fellow forwards Shaun Maloney (back) and Grant Holt (knee) on the sidelines for Town's trip to the DW Stadium and Callum McManaman (ankle) hobbled off after an hour. All four are unlikely to be risked in a repeat of last year's FA Cup final, meaning Coyle once again has a dearth of attacking options.

Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi (shoulder) and defenders Gary Caldwell (hip) and Ivan Ramis (knee) are long-term absentees so the door could be opened for youngsters such as Lee Nicholls, Adam Buxton and Nouha Dicko to start.
