Football - Daggers' heart boosts Burnett

Manager Wayne Burnett believes his Dagenham side have the character to prove a stronger force in League Two this season.

He was delighted with the way they fought back to snatch an injury time equaliser through Luke Howell in their 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe.

And he is feels there is enough quality in his side to avoid a third successive battle against relegation.

"It is imperative this season that we get off to a good start," said Burnett. "Not many teams will come here to Scunthorpe this season and go away with a point.

"I must confess I thought we would be leaving with nothing when they went in front after 88 miniutes. It came from a corner and I was really upset with the way we conceded.

"But we showed great character to come back and equalise through Luke. I was delighted with that. It showed a never-say-die attitude.

"Overall, I think a draw was perhaps a fair result. Both teams had chances and in the end it could have finished 3-3 or 4-4."

Burnett is happy with the way his squad is shaping up this season after taking four points from their last two games.

"We are getting better as a squad, but it is an ongoing process," he said. "There are still some things we need to work on but we will continue to improve."
