Football - Davids delight at Gills win

Barnet player-boss Edgar Davids praised his players for their collective endeavour, which he hopes will help them stay out of the relegation places, after they beat Gillingham 1-0.

Jake Hyde's 20-yard strike after 19 minutes was enough to give the visitors only their second away win of the season.

Davids said: "We believed in ourselves and believed we could do it. It was a hard game, but it was a very good win.

"If you play like a team, something will come off for you. We can give any team a hard time. The goal was a team effort, from our first counter-attack. Everything we said we would do, we did.

"It's all about progress and getting points in. Who we play against, it doesn't matter. We always need the points. We're now off the bottom, but we still have train hard and hope that we don't slip back from our progression. Hopefully that will give us a steady stream of points to keep us up.

"I think we played better than we have during other away games, also our team shape was better. By focusing on that we got the result."
