Two late goals from striker Jamie Proctor brought an end to Alex's four-match unbeaten run and Davis says it will be tough to achieve now with only nine games remaining.
He said: "It does us no favours. We needed to win this game but for both teams it will be a tall order. Crawley are only two points ahead of us."
The match was quickly re-scheduled after last Saturday's postponement and Davis said the preparations were not ideal.
He added: "We had a long wait for this game. At the end of the game we looked tired and leggy."
Davis was disappointed that Crewe did not look potent enough upfront and admitted the absence of top scorer Mathias Pogba, who has been on international duty with Guinea, was keenly felt.
He said: "Pogba is a big miss as he always looks likely to score and creates opportunities with his presence."
