Football - Davis upbeat after Colchester win

Crewe manager Steve Davis felt his side fully deserved the 2-1 victory at Colchester which helped them move off the bottom of the League One table.

Alex recovered from going behind to Luke Garbutt's free-kick to claim three precious points thanks to second-half goals from Chuks Aneke and Tom Hitchcock.

Davis said: "It's great to come back from 1-0 down to win by playing some good football and we got what we deserved for a change.

"I said to the boys at half-time let's finish the year off on a real high because we've had a disappointing four months.

"Now we have to claw some of those clubs a little bit closer to us and I think that we're capable of doing that.

"We have to keep improving and working hard and we can't wait for the next game now.

"If we can go into the Carlisle game on New Year's Day and get something from that, we've then got a break to get players back and things will be looking better for us.

"The back four did well and last season we didn't concede too many with it.

"They were good again and I can't fault them for the free-kick Colchester scored from."
