Football - Dayton debut may be delayed

Summer signing James Dayton may have to wait for his Oldham debut as he struggles with a knock ahead of the season-opener against Stevenage.

The former Kilmarnock winger sustained the problem in training and will be assessed before the trip. Dayton's injury aside, Latics' only other missing player is Carl Winchester after the defender suffered a knee injury in pre-season.

The Football League's youngest boss Lee Johnson is likely to hand striker Adam Rooney a start following his arrival on a free transfer on Thursday. There are no concerns over Rooney's fitness given he has been training with Oldham for some time.

Johnson has also brought forward Charlie MacDonald, midfielder Anton Rodgers and Latvian centre-back Edijs Joksts to Boundary Park this summer and all will be hoping to make their bows.
