The Magpies took the lead in the 42nd minute through Gary Liddle but Bantams substitute Mark Yeates equalised four minutes after coming on.

Bradford pushed for a winner but County held on for a point, despite the late dismissal of Marcus Haber for an apparent elbow on Gary Jones.

"I am really proud. It is a great occasion for me. It is my first point - I am pleased," said Derry, who had lost his first four games in charge.

"We were on the back foot for long periods, but we can gain a lot of confidence from this result.

"I expect there will be other occasions when it is going to be a backs-to-the-wall fight and we are going to need everyone in a Notts County shirt to see us through."

On the sending off, Derry added: "It was an honest challenge but a bit of a silly one. TV cameras might prove different, but it didn't look as if he had led with the elbow."
