Football - Dickov Fed up

Doncaster boss Paul Dickov admits that Rovers are missing Federico Macheda.

Since the Manchester United striker returned to Old Trafford to receive treatment for a hamstring injury Doncaster have lost to Reading, Middlesbrough and Brighton.

Conceding 11 goals in those three matches might suggest that Rovers' problems lie in defence, but Dickov feels that the premature end to Macheda's loan spell has contributed to his side's poor run.

"We've missed Kiko because the one thing he is is a goalscorer," Dickov told the Doncaster Free Press.

"He's got that fantastic knack of being in the right place at the right time, and when he gets a chance he finishes it off more often than not.

"Any team would miss quality like that."

Macheda joined Doncaster on a month-long loan in mid-September but injury at the beginning of October cut short his stay at the Sky Bet Championship club.

The 22-year-old Italian scored three goals in five league appearances, including four starts, for Rovers.

He is edging nearer to a return to fitness and Dickov plans to contact the Barclays Premier League champions in the near future to see if he can bring Macheda back to South Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, Dickov is hopeful Theo Robinson will be fit for Saturday's derby trip to Barnsley after the striker was a late withdrawal against Brighton at the weekend with a hamstring strain.
