The Millers first game back in the third tier since 2007 is at Gresty Road on Saturday and Evans already knowsthe majority of his side.
Only Daniel Nardiello is a doubt for the clash with a hamstring injury he sustained in a pre-season friendly against Huddersfield.
"I knew my team for Crewe weeks ago, I knew the type of system I would have to play and the type of players we'd need," he told Press Association Sport.
"We have a worry over Daniel Nardiello, but he has been training this week so he could be fit.
"The line-up may need tweaking if he isn't fit, but outside of that we know what we want do and we will be working on that in the build-up to the game."
Evans has recruited well this summer, bringing in eight signings into a pool that already has a wealth of experience at this level.
But the Scot, chasing a fourth successive promotion as manager, confesses he will not be fully sure on the strength of his squad until the real action begins.
"You never know how your squad will shape up until the season starts," he added. "We have certainly worked on our recruitment, but you always go into the season with a little bit of trepidation.
"You sign people with the best of intentions but sometimes signings don't work out."
