Football - Evans realistic on Millers hopes

Rotherham boss Steve Evans will accept mid-table consolidation as his team prepares for life back in League One.

PA Sport Report

Evans guided the Millers to automatic promotion from League Two last season, ending a six-year stay in the bottom tier.

An impressive recruitment drive over the summer and the momentum from last term's achievements has risen hopes of another promotion challenge, but with the likes of Wolves, Bristol City, Preston, Sheffield United and Peterborough all looking strong, Evans is not getting carried away.

"Realistically if we are in the middle of the pack and not looking over our shoulder at the end of the season then we will say that has been a great achievement," he told Press Association Sport.

"I could name nine or 10 outstanding clubs in this league and if we can get in the middle of them then we will have had the most fantastic season.

"All the talk has been of Wolves, Bristol City and Preston, so if we can compete with them then we will be doing outstandingly well.

"We will embrace League One and we hope we can produce the performances that our supporters deserve.

"Hopefully it will be another rollercoaster ride with a lot less falls than last year."
