Despite dominating from start to finish, the promotion-chasing Millers left it until the 76th minute to get the only goal of the game - ending a three-match winless sequence.
Lionel Ainsworth's left-wing corner was flicked on at the near post by Kari Arnason and Alex Revell arrived late to head home.
"We have watched game after game here where if it had been a boxing match the towel would have been thrown in because we had so much possession," Evans said.
"We said to the players at half-time if we ended up drawing 0-0 to keep passing it, moving it and using our width, and we would live with it, but we got the three points in the end.
"We had a break from action last week and I think we needed that. We've used the time to freshen everyone up and this is a fully-fresh squad now for the remaining seven games.
"Our energy levels all over the pitch were fantastic and all our players made a fantastic contribution, but if anyone deserves a goal for his efforts over the last few weeks it's Alex Revell."
