This brazen football fan became an internet hit over the weekend - after his mates dared him to pose as a match day steward.

Daniel Ball found a high-visibility jacket on his way to watching Rochdale v Oldham Athletic in League One on Saturday.

And when his mates dared him to pretend to be a steward during the match at Spotland, Daniel, 25, rose to the challenge.

Daniel, a Manchester City fan from Oldham, stood authoritatively, hands behind back, at the foot of the away end and even told an Oldham fan to move from a restricted area.

He fooled several actual stewards and lasted 'around five minutes' before he was eventually rumbled.

Pictures taken by his mates from the stands swept the internet this weekend, however, and Daniel's exploits have gone well and truly viral.

Daniel had travelled to the lower league clash on Saturday (which finished 0-0) as his beloved Man City weren't playing until the following day.

He told the Manchester Evening News: 'I just came back out into the stadium and stood between two stewards. A woman steward came up to me and asked me where I had come from. I pointed back down towards the area I had come from and she seemed to buy it.

'I told one fan that he could not watch the game from where he was stood and he moved. Then a supervisor came over to me and asked me what agency I was with.

'I told the supervisor that I was just an Oldham fan for the day and wanted to help out. He looked bemused.'

Daniel added that he was eventually removed by a real steward who told him he 'wasn't insured' after about five minutes.

He insisted, however, that 'the club were great about it', and that he was even allowed to remain in the crowd for the rest of the game... and keep the high-vis jacket.
