Wigan were relegated from the Barclays Premier League in May and have a new manager in Owen Coyle following Roberto Martinez's departure to Everton, but Flitcroft is expecting a tough test for his players.

"Getting a home fixture against the FA Cup winners is a great opener to the campaign. All the lads want to play.

"Wigan are rightly regarded as one of the favourites to go straight back to the Premier League.

"They lost Roberto Martinez to Everton, but have hired someone in Owen with experience of getting a team out of this league.

"We're under no illusions that it will be a stern test, but we are really looking forward to it and I'm sure the supporters are too. The start of a new season is always an exciting time."
