Football - Giggs: Young players must step up

Ryan Giggs believes the next couple of weeks could shape the futures of some Manchester United youngsters.

Despite winning the Premier League title with four games to spare, Sir Alex Ferguson insists his players are not winding down towards their summer holidays.

However, Belgian teenager Adnan Januzaj has already been added to the United squad, hinting at the possibility he will appear on the bench at least before the campaign reaches its conclusion.

And if the opportunity comes, Giggs knows it has to be accepted.

"I have seen so many young players over the years have a chance and not really take it," said the Welshman.

"Others think 'this is my chance I am going to make sure the manager takes notice' and they perform like they have been doing in the youth team or the reserves.

"Nick Powell did it earlier this season. He came on against Wigan and scored. That is what young players have to do."
