Football - Grayson planning squad changes

Simon Grayson admits some of the players he has allowed to leave Preston on loan are highly unlikely to feature in his future plans.

Winger Jeffrey Monakana, 20, was this week recalled by North End boss after a spell away with Colchester, which could perhaps have given hope to fellow loanees such as Nicky Wroe, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and Graham Cummins that they may still have a role with their parent club.

However, without naming names, Grayson gave a realistic assessment of some of those currently away from the club.

"They'll be one or two players out on loan whose futures probably lie further away from this football club," said the Lilywhites manager.

Grayson was unlikely to be referring to defender Ben Davies, 18, and Ryan Croasdale, 19 - who are at York and Tamworth respectively - with those comments. Instead, he sees the two teenagers' spells away from Deepdale as crucial to their futures.

"Other ones are there for experience to come back to make us stronger as a team and as a football club," he continued.

"Jeffrey went out to get games through his frustration at not being involved, people like Ben Davies, Ryan have gone out to get some games to get experience rather than being banished away form this football club.

"Any opportunity you get to play you have to make sure you do yourself justice and if players don't think we're watching them they'll be shocked. We have reports of all our players out on loan and I speak to the managers because it's our job and we want to know how they're getting on."
