Football - Grayson relief at late leveller

Preston boss Simon Grayson admitted his side were distinctly average in the 1-1 draw with Tranmere.

Chris Atkinson looked to have earned the hosts victory when he latched onto Max Power's pass but Joe Garner's late header, from Stuart Beavon's cross, shared the spoils.

"We were average to say the least," said Preston boss Simon Grayson. "I thought we didn't do the things we're good at doing, in terms of defenders being on the front foot and stopping them from playing.

"Midfielders didn't pass the ball as well as they should've done and when we got into the final third we didn't have the creativity to break them down.

"It could be a valuable point come the end of the season. We've got people who are capable of scoring goals and it gives me the options when I need to change it slightly.

"I thought as the game went on we looked a little bit predictable going from back to front to Kevin (Davies) too quickly.

"I just felt that another option of Joe Garner and Stuart Beavon coming on might affect it and I'm delighted Joe got the goal because he's been sharp in training and he's never quite got the goals that his performances deserve."
