Football - Jepson joy as Nardiello nets

Bury caretaker boss Ronnie Jepson hailed goal-hero Daniel Nardiello after his strike clinched a 1-0 win against Hartlepool.

The on-loan Rotherham striker opened his account for his new team after 48 minutes, ending a seven-game winless run at home for the Shakers.

"That's what we brought him here for because we know he can do that," said Jepson. "You'd like to think there's goals up there now, especially with Craig Jones and Chris Sedgwick supplying.

"But it was important to get that back four right and win those second balls and then we can start to play football.

"If we can continue to do those basics we can then get the ball to the likes of Nardiello and Jones, who will hopefully get us goals.

"It was a hard-fought three points but I think we thoroughly deserved it and I can't remember Brian Jensen having too many saves to make.

"I would've liked that second goal just to make it a little easier but I thought we saw the game out well.

"It's not all doom and gloom. We've got to continue doing the basics, which is what I keep telling the lads, and then hopefully the results will come."
