Jones, 35, in his first season at Valley Parade, has been nominated alongside Exeter striker Jamie Cureton and Port Vale forward Tom Pope for the award, which will be presented at the Football League's gala ceremony at The Brewery, London on Sunday.
All nominees for the player of the year awards have been voted for by the Football League's 72 managers.
Liverpool-born Jones, who had spent the previous eight seasons at Rochdale before joining Bradford on a free transfer in the summer, has been a virtual ever-present in the engine room for Phil Parkinson's side this season and was instrumental in the Bantams' historic giantkilling run to Wembley in the Capital One Cup final.
