Football - Kav happy with response

Graham Kavanagh was pleased with Carlisle's response to losing at Oldham as the Cumbrians returned to winning ways at MK Dons.

The Blues lost for the first time on Saturday under Kavanagh's guidance but bounced back immediately in Milton Keynes on Tuesday night, with Lewis Guy scoring the only goal of the game after 35 minutes to condemn an injury-ravaged Dons to their first home loss of the season.

"It's been a difficult couple of days for the players," said Kavanagh.

"We all spoke about the honeymoon period being over in respect to us losing our unbeaten record but everything we worked on has come to fruition and I'm very pleased with the win.

"I still felt we were under pressure in the second half but I think if anybody was going to score it looked like we were going to catch them on the counter.

"We know we are going to come up against good teams who have an awful lot of possession but I just need to get our players believing in the way we play.

"They doubt themselves a little bit and that can be frustrating.

"But when they play to that level of intelligence, intensity and work-rate for each other they're a very difficult side to break down and they are a good side.

"The sooner we start believing in ourselves the sooner we'll start looking at the top end of the table rather than the bottom."
