Football - Kernaghan happy as Bees progress

Brentford assistant boss Alan Kernaghan insisted the positives far outweighed the negatives despite a late scare for his side in a 5-3 JPT win over AFC Wimbledon.

A brace from Farid El Alagui and efforts from Luke Norris, Ben Nugent and Javi Venta saw the Bees sweep into a 5-1 lead after Jim Fenlon had replied for the visitors.

But sloppy defending saw George Francomb and Peter Sweeney give the scoreline a more respectable look with two late goals for the Dons.

Kernaghan said: "The finishing was clinical and we created many chances. I was delighted for the front two but we will have a look at the DVD to assess some of our defending.

"It would have been nice to have kept it at 5-0 or 5-1 but to be fair some of the lads out there are inexperienced and haven't played together, but it will give us something to work on."

He added: "Parts of the defensive side were poor but there were many more pluses than minuses, so overall it was a good night."
