Alan Knill has been impressed with Leicester loanee Jak McCourt

Millwall loanee John Marquis only met Elliott Benyon the day before the match but the pair took little time to form an understanding with Benyon opening the scoring at Plainmoor after Marquis' shot forced a save out of Luke McCormick.

And the pair made life difficult for the Argyle defence throughout the match to delight their manager.

"If I'm a centre-half I wouldn't want to play against them," he told Press Association Sport.

"What they've got is a work ethic and you haven't got any time to dwell on the ball because they are around you and both aggressive and physical. You know you are in a game with them because you haven't got time to dwell on the ball.

"I thought they worked really well."

Marquis made the loan move from Millwall after a successful spell with Portsmouth earlier this season and his muscular attacking play meant he impressed the Gulls faithful, and Knill, on his debut.

"He's a very good player, he enjoys the physical side of it," he added. "He was such a big plus for us, when the ball went forward it wasn't a free header, it was a big physical challenge and he has good feet as well.

"I thought he was excellent for his first game considering he only came in on Sunday night.

"I've seen him for the last three years and we tried to sign him this year but we just couldn't afford the wages before things changed which put him in our bracket."
