Tunnicliffe, 21, left Manchester United after more than 10 years with the club at the end of January to join the Cottagers, where his former mentor at Old Trafford Rene Meulensteen was in charge at the time.
His move to the DW Stadium is the fourth loan spell of Tunnicliffe's career after stints at Peterborough, Barnsley and Ipswich.
Wigan manager Uwe Rosler said: "Ryan is a very promising prospect who has experience in the Championship, and after we lost Ben (Watson), I am delighted we have got someone who is so football-educated, having come through the ranks at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.
"He is a different type of player from Ben but will definitely add a new dimension to us."
