Football - Lennon enjoys win for win's sake

Danny Lennon insists that the prize of beating Hearts to gain three points in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League was bigger than gaining a psychological boost ahead of next month's Scottish Communities League Cup final

St Mirren defeated their final opponents 2-0 at St Mirren Park to leapfrog John McGlynn's side in the table.

Paul McGowan blazed home from the penalty spot after three minutes and Graham Carey's wonder goal extended their lead on the stroke of half-time.

"There was a big build-up to the game in the media as it was a dress rehearsal for the final," said Lennon.

"We didn't see it like that, we saw the prize as the opportunity to claim three points.

"It now gives us the chance to climb the league table and gather a bit more momentum."
