Lopez's treble in addition to the Bees' opener from Luke Gambin more than cancelled out 10-man Morecambe's first-half opener from Jack Redshaw, with the home side triumphing 4-1.
And Davids, who himself was guilty of missing a gilt-edged chance in the opening period, was delighted with his side's turnaround, in particular his Spanish hat-trick hero.
"This game has set a benchmark for us of how far we have grown up to now," the Dutchman said.
"At half-time I told everyone more of the same but also give another 20%. It worked because we were more determined to score.
"I was pleased with Dani Lopez in the second half but not in the first half. He came too deep in midfield, he caused more trouble than helped and the link-ups were not tidy.
"There were words exchanged at half-time but you see with Lopez, even though for me he didn't play a brilliant game, with his extra quality he can just pull a rabbit out of the hat all of a sudden.
"The goal we gave away was really soft, we spoke about it before the game and still made the same mistake that's not good.
"It's always a bit of risk to play with youngsters because you never know what you're going to expect, it's like a box of chocolates but this time they were sweet."
