Stevie May has scored four goals in nine games so far this season

The young frontman has made a promising start to the season with four goals in nine outings so far.

He grabbed the winner against Rosenborg in the Europa League qualifiers and showed his abilities with a fine strike in the 2-1 defeat to Hibernian last weekend.

Wright was impressed with the Scotland Under-21 cap's goal but stressed he is far from the finished article.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash with Celtic, Wright said: "Stevie is still only 20. He scored a great goal at the weekend but there were little aspects of his game that we were not happy with.

"As a striker, I'd like him to look at Steven MacLean's link-up play to see where to improve. He maybe needs to do a little better with his heading too.

"But you expect that from a 20-year-old. He's not the complete player yet.

"He knows that and he knows he has to work on it. But it's an on-going process for him. He's a young player with great ability but there's a long way to go.

"But the good thing is that he realises all that and that he has to work hard.

"Down the years, I have seen similar type players who hit the ground running in their first season but then disappear from the game.

"But Stevie's got the character to knuckle down. He needs a slice of good luck along the way but hard work and ability can take you a long way."
