Football - McInnes calls for Red Army backing

Derek McInnes has appealed to Aberdeen fans to get behind the team this season, starting with the Scottish Premiership opener against Kilmarnock at Pittodrie on Saturday.

McInnes has revamped the squad over the summer as he sets out on his first full campaign as Dons manager and the former Bristol City and St Johnstone boss believes his players will respond to backing from the Red Army.

Speaking to RedTV, he said: "We have got what a lot of clubs haven't got, a real volume of support.

"The support have shown good backing for us in terms of numbers. We have got to use that to our advantage, we have got to use that for our cause for this season. It would be foolish not to.

"I would appeal to them now, if you want to get in that Red Army, get in it, give us noise and plenty of backing.

"The players will be ready to perform for them every Saturday at three o'clock, they will be full of energy, they will be full of commitment and they will play the game the way the support expects them to play.

"All we ask is that if things aren't going so well at times, stay with the team because the players will be doing their best to get the result that we all want."
