Football - Mistakes cost us - Hill

Rochdale boss Keith Hill says mistakes at crucial times cost his side as they lost 2-1 at rock-bottom Torquay.

Jamie Allen's close-range leveller had drawn the visitors level but a late winner saw them make the long trip home with no points to show for their troubles and they finished the match a man light after Ollie Lancashire was sent off with two minutes to go.

He said: "Don't take anything for granted in football. I never do.

"Like I have said before it's about managing points. I thought we had an opportunity to nudge one up. Points-wise I expected us to get at least a point. Call me mad, call me lacking ambition but a point would have been massive for us.

"It was one of those Tuesday games where we had played Friday and were full of energy and I thought we had a great opportunity but I believe one or two mistakes have really cost us.

"We were in good form, keeping clean sheets and have been really good at that. We have to get back to that against Accrington. The mantra is keeping clean sheets.

"When you find yourselves one goal down to get back on level par is good but to find yourself being behind for a second time, it's very, very difficult at that stage of the game.

"Let's be right both goals were avoidable. It's just something else to tweak, the players won't lose any confidence but I wanted to be two points in front of the pack with a game in hand and unfortunately we have got a game in hand."
