The result meant United remained in the relegation zone, one point from safety.
"It was a hard-earned point. I was disappointed with the goal we conceded again after conceding within two minutes of coming out," said Clough. "I was disappointed with our final delivery because we got in some good positions at times."
He added: "I thought we played some decent stuff at times. They had a lot of the ball without really hurting us.
"We can't fault the effort and the work rate, which was tremendous. The players can't give any more than that. It's only two defeats from the last eight now, which builds up confidence."
