Football - Owers boosted by consistent Argyle

Plymouth' assistant manager Gary Owers believes his side's display in the 1-1 draw with Portsmouth was their most consistent display of the campaign.

Conor Hourihane's 21st minute strike gave the Pilgrims a lead they held until Jed Wallace restored parity in the 39th minute.

Owers said: "I thought we played really well particularly the first the 30 minutes and we scored. Unfortunately after we conceded the equaliser we just lost our way a little bit.

"I thought we stuck to it and put in as consistent a 90 minutes than we have done this season.

"The 3-5-2 system is not bold. We are looking at things and we want to try and win games, we have a lot of faith in a number of the players and we just felt it was time to come up with something else.

"There might have been a little bit of luck involved in that because we played Swindon, who played a 3-5-2 on Tuesday and we had to match them up.

"When we did that it gave us something different and we took that into this game and I thought we played quite well on the day.

"It was a good, a great game for the players to play in, a big crowd, good atmosphere and probably the supporters enjoyed it.

"We are just trying to improve week-on-week now and we are disappointed that we could not just do enough to get us over the line for a win and they are probably happier with a draw than we are."
