Evans, whose side have been handed a tie at Aston Villa in Round 2, famously led Crawley to the fifth round of the FA Cup as a non-league side, beating Derby on the way to a clash at Manchester United while also beating Championship opposition the following year.

But the Scot ranks Tuesday's performance, where the Millers totally outclassed their South Yorkshire rivals, as the highlight.

"It's up there with the best of them," he told Press Association Sport.

"When I was at Crawley and beat Hull and Derby they are occasions I will always remember, but everyone has spoken to me about Sheffield Wednesday since the minute of the draw.

"It's a big win for us, I'm not going to get carried away.

"As a management team we have never experienced nights like this, it's really special and this is for the town."

Evans was desperate for a home tie but is settling for a mouth-watering trip to Villa Park.

"We really wanted a Premier League side and that is just what we have got," he added.

"Aston Villa are a great club which is steeped in history and I am looking forward to seeing a man I know very well, fellow Glaswegian Paul Lambert."
