New signing Chris Wood scored two goals on his debut, Anthony Knockaert also netted twice and Ritchie De Laet and Martyn Waghorn completed the rout.
The win kept Leicester in fifth place in the npower Championship, five points off the automatic promotion places.
"It was not a bad way to start the new year, was it?" said a delighted Pearson.
"It was a very good team performance. We have had a tough run of late when our performances have not always got the points we deserved. But when you look at the Christmas and New Year period taken together, the only game we have lost we should have won.
"But we have done okay and we have hung on in there in what has been a tough period."
Pearson was also pleased to see his new recruit make an immediate positive impact for the Foxes.
He said: "Chris Wood played a very positive part in what was a very good team performance.
"His attributes fit the bill for what we are looking for. He is a team player and works very hard and shows a lot of football intelligence as well. It is pleasing that that he has got off to such a good start.
"All our forwards have a lot of flair and potential and we now have a lot of options moving forward."
