Leam Richardson has explained the reasons behind his decision to quit as Accrington boss and become Chesterfield's assistant manager.

Richardson masterminded Stanley's late-season escape from League Two relegation trouble but dropped a bombshell on the Store First Stadium on Tuesday when he opted to join up with former boss Paul Cook once more.

Richardson told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I think career-minded people and people in football will realise that this is a very good move.

"Certain people will question it but I see the bigger picture because I'm only 33 and I have a lot to learn.

"Once the question got asked and I sat down with my family it quickly became apparent that this would be an exciting move.

"You can see that this is a club going in the right direction and it needs to get there quickly."

He added: "I'll take some fantastic memories from Accrington and it will live with me forever.

"If I dropped out of football tomorrow then it'd still be a big part of my life."
