And the Stanley squad could have made the long trip home with all three points had Argyle's new left-back Anthony Charles not cleared James Beattie's header off the line.
"It was a good point seeing we were away from home but it was the least we deserved as we dominated the first half," Richardson said.
"We had to rejig and reshape because of injuries in the second half which did allow Plymouth back into the game a little bit, although we restricted them to playing long balls into our box.
"I still felt we could get something more form the game and we nearly did.
"I thought a point was the least we deserved. The team all played well, with the correct emphasis.
"We came down and got a result. We did not want to lose and the mind set was tremendous, both individually and collectively."
