Paulo Bento’s side bowed out of the tournament at the group stage after yesterday’s results confirmed Germany and the United States as the sides to progress out of Group G.
Portugal ended with a 2-1 win over Ghana but it wasn’t enough to clinch second place. Ronaldo said the team at least ended on a positive note.
“We leave with our heads up. I tried to do my best, but that’s football,” AS reports Ronaldo as saying.
“It was a game with many opportunities but we couldn’t take advantage.
“The task was difficult but it was possible in the final game.”
Ronaldo was named man of the match for the win over the Black Stars, and scored his first goal of the tournament.
